Look at it from the brighter side guys.

That is something really important to remember: when we win this, it’s only the beginning. This can’t only be about “us”.

Here’s an amazing new graphic from National Geographic that maps income levels on top of world population densities. In a glance you can see where humans live on earth and at what wealth level. Click through for the full thing, plus more demographic information (on pages 2-4) broken down by income level: (via Where and on how much money the world lives ‐ Covestor)

You don’t have to go to Africa to help the poor. You can do so by dropping a dollar or two in the cup of that homeless man you pass by on the way to work every morning. Participating in a fundraiser for school supplies to give to underprivileged children. Volunteering at the neighborhood’s Boys & Girls club. There’s much to be done locally. If someone wants to help, they have the right to assist however, whenever, and wherever they desire. But please know that you don’t deserve a reward for going to another continent to offer your heroic help. Because despite your extreme effort to appease your passion by traveling all the way across the globe, if you are attracted only by the shining light of the self-fulfillment that comes attached with various mission trips to Africa, then you are allowing that glare to blind you to the problems that exist in your own backyard.
