Having destroyed my pair of Happy Socks in just six months, I was hesitant to branch outside of the hiking socks that I know can stand up to my sock-abuse. But I stumbled across Darn Tough Vermont at REI today, and they advertise an unconditional lifetime guarantee. Destroy your socks? They’ll be impressed, and replace them for free. The guy at the register said it was true, they’d replaced a pair of socks for him that he had managed to destroy and he couldn’t be happier. At $18 a pair, they are not cheap… but for a lifetime guarantee? Not a bad deal.

Are they comfortable? I feel like they’d have to be made out of steel to justify that guarantee.

They’re definitely performance socks, but yes, so far they are comfortable and soft enough. They even have a seamless toe design (the seam near the toe is practically non-existant, and placed to the side — I can’t find any “bulky” pressure points that many socks tend to have, that can cause problems). They also aren’t thick like performance socks sometimes are, which is awesome (though these are their “lifestyle” line, and they have thicker high performance ones).

I think these might actually be my dream socks that I’ve been looking for my whole life.
