It’s been a strange and difficult week.

“O Children” // Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds

This came to mind when I heard about the shooting earlier today. I’ve got nothing else to add because I’m too sad and angry right now.

“Something Good Can Work” // Two Door Cinema Club

Borrowing these interesting questions from this NPR article “You Are What You Hear: What Your Favorite Music Says About You”.

What was the first song you ever bought?

The first album I ever personally bought was Third Eye Blind’s first album. I was 11, turning 12 in November. Prior to that I strictly listened to my parent’s tapes, CDs, and the radio (of which I made many mixtapes off of). The two songs that were super popular off that album, and consequently my favorites, were “Jumper” and “Semi-Charmed Life”. My favorite songs off that album are different now.

What song always gets you dancing?

“D.A.N.C.E.” by Justice has done this the last few years.

What song takes you back to your childhood?

It’s funny, because there are songs that distinctly remind me of the summer I was 16 years old. Every time I hear them, I think of summers in Colorado. But I don’t count that as childhood, so instead I might say almost anything by Fleetwood Mac. My parents were big fans of Fleetwood Mac, and so I listened to them a lot as a kid. But in particular, “Go Your Own Way” and “Little Lies” remind me of my childhood.

What is your perfect love song?

Well, when you actually listen to the lyrics, most of the “love songs” that I like are actually kind of fucked up in one way or another. They’re amazing songs, but a little depressing when you think about them (see great songs such as: “With or Without You”, “Wicked Games”, “I Am Human”, and “Love Will Tear Us Apart”).

That said… “First Day of My Life” by Bright Eyes and “You and I” by Ingrid Michaelson are probably as close to perfect as you can get. Sweet and a little sappy, but not ridiculous.

What song would you want at your funeral?

“Hard Sun” by Eddie Vedder

Time for an encore. One last song that makes you, you.

“Under the Milky Way Tonight” by The Church

These are awesome / hilarious / ridiculous.

turnabout:

I saw Ryan Jarman at the most hipster venue I’ve ever been at. He played some of the Cribs songs I never thought I’d see live (like shoot the poets)

This was ridiculously fun last night, even though I was about to fall asleep against the wall at the end of Ryan’s set because it had been a long, hot, sunny day full of awesomeness.

If You Ever Need Someone - The Family Bones

This is what a music video using 25,000 Post-it notes looks like.

Via the band’s description on YouTube:

We spent nearly four months creating this stop motion animation for the debut single off of THE FAMILY BONES upcoming record. We used a green screen for the live action elements and utilized a few loops and split screens to make it possible to pull this off without a label or a budget. All of the post its you see are real and were put up by hand
