There are three primary ways for organizations to help people in need.
I’ve seen some criticism of Invisible Children spending money on awareness (t-shirts, videos, etc.) rather than the money directly helping people in need, so I just want to put this out there. There are three primary ways organizations can help people in need.
- emergency aid
- advocacy and policy work
I’m not saying the criticism is not valid. I’ve heard the complaint before, and while no organization is perfect, all organizations should be held to a high standard. But I feel it’s important to keep in mind that as important as emergency aid and development are, emergency aid is a short term solution and development requires advocacy & policy work.
